Reminder to update your spyware & virus definitions ! If you need a wonderful free spyware program, check out www.ewido.net. Adaware and Spybot are also excellent, though I was impressed that Ewido found trojans and spyware they never found - best of all it's free. If you need a good virus checker, check out AVG Anti Virus at Grisoft.com. If you just don't trust the freebies - you might try one of these below - click through the link for special offers. There ARE alternatives that won't slow your computer to a crawl like Norton Utilities does....
Have you heard about Yahoo Widgets? These are cool little programs that live on your desktop - there are hundreds of them so you're sure to find something you just can't live without. My favorites are the Motor City webcams (watch local traffic in real time), TV Guide, the Acura traffic Maps (tells you all the accidents, road construction and speeds for all the major freeways), a Stock Ticker and Lowest Gas prices by zipcode. There's even a Werewolf monitor and weather maps. Some are indispensable, others useless - but there's something for everyone and new ones are posted all the time. Check them out at widgets.yahoo.com/gallery and download some for your desktop - they're free!
